Loomis' Bridal Isle

Loomis Nebraska, population 389, might not leap to mind when thinking about the location of Nebraska's premiere wedding shop, but it should! There's not much here to attract visitors. Yes, there's a thriving ag cooperative, and there's the school - home of the Loomis Wolves. But if locals see out-of-county license plates in town, chances are they are here to visit Bridal Isle.
Bridal Isle boasts an inventory of more than 400 wedding gowns, plus mother-of-the-bride dresses, bridesmaid dresses and prom dresses. The Bridal Isle experience is completely personalized, with each bridal party being guided by their own personal bridal consultant.

Brides come from all across Nebraska, the surrounding states, and even from around the world to shop in Loomis at Bridal Isle. According to the history of the store found in an article on Nebraska Rural Living, Bridal Isle was founded in 1984 by Marie Thorell. Since then, it has been purchased by long-time employee Karla Axtell, who continues to share her passion for the business with the brides she helps.

The bride I accompanied on my visit wasn't intending to purchase a gown - this was the first shopping foray. But after three gowns, she walked out of the changing room absolutely aglow in a beautiful gown that showed her off perfectly. Several gowns later, she went back to the "one", and cancelled her appointments at other shops.

When you go... there's not much else in Loomis. However, it's only seven miles west of Holdrege where you'll find great restaurants (we recommend Taste of Texas BBQ), and the Lost Way Brewery.
